Something for the weekend Empire and Flag Days at Beamish Museum This is great fun for all the family especially the young ones. There are activities around the museum to commemorate young people’s admirable work during the First World War. You can make your own flag in The Pit Village school and learn about food from across the Empire in the band hall. Listen to songs and stories and find out more about traditional Scouting skills around the campfire in Birch Wood. Enjoy music in The 1900s Town park and call into the dentist's waiting room to collect your Empire Certificate. Discover the story of the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) and take a look inside a First World War ambulance. Latest Review of the Garden Room Riding Farm House Bed & Breakfast - Lovely place to stay. "Great B&B. We were given a lovely welcome by the owner, Angus, who showed us to our room and then gave us coffee, tea and Victoria sponge. Our room was lovely with a huge kingsize bed, the shower was great. Breakfast in the morning was just what we needed for the day ahead, again prepared and served by Angus. There was a wide selection of cooked breakfast available as well as cereal and fresh fruit salad. I’d thoroughly recommend the Riding Farm as somewhere to stay. " The farmer again gets 5 out of 5 ! The Garden Room is a lovely large and light room, with lovely views over the garden and fields. The room can be arranged as a Super King or Twin to suit your needs. Ideal located for exploring Durham, Newcastle and Northumberland http://www.ridingfarmbedandbreakfast.co.uk/ — Products shown: Bed and Breakfast near Beamish Museum, Business Accommodation and Bed and Breakfast.

Contemporary Art comes to Gibside How lucky are we to be situated so close to so many fantastic places like Gibside, just one of 9 National Trust properties you can visit in the region. Gibside is only 10 minutes from us and this is just one reason to visit them http://www.ridingfarmcottages.co.uk/ Visit this rare example of a Georgian landscape garden during the summer and expect a few extra surprises. Think evocative, celebratory and poignant works of art. To commemorate a year of 'Women and Power' you can explore new artworks by artists Andrew Burton and Fiona Curran celebrating Gibside's most famous female custodian, Mary Eleanor Bowes. Commissioned by Newcastle University, Contemporary art at Gibside will see an architectual folly by the orangery and large vessels within the walled garden and alongside the avenue from Saturday 12 May to 30 September. These pieces have been created as part of a research project, Mapping Contemorary Art in the Heritage Experience, which explores how art might change your experience at a heritage site, such as Gibside. Mapping Contemporary Art in the Heritage Experience is a major research project led by Newcastle University with the National Trust, Churches Conservation Trust, Arts Council England and Contemporary Visual Arts Network resulting in four new artworks in heritage sites, an online digital resource, conference and exhibition. For more details, you can visit http://research.ncl.
