About Remembrance Sunday Remembrance Sunday, the second Sunday in November, is the day traditionally put aside to remember all those who have given their lives in the line of duty. On this day people pause, reflect and remember. Remembrance Day is officially the 11th November to remember the end of hostilities of First World War on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month”. Generally the 11th hour is chosen as the time to observe a silence. On 7th November 1919 King George V marked the 11th November as a day of remembrance for members of the armed forces who were killed during the First World War. The first official Remembrance Day was subsequently held on the grounds of Buckingham Palace on the morning of 11th November 1919. This type of commemorative event has continued to the present Beamish Museum do this so well http://www.ridingfarmcottages.co.uk
