“Tranquill and Welcoming” latest review for Bowes Barn
5 of 5 stars

We stayed in Bowes Barn at Riding Farm. Such a lovely place to stay and the owners Angus and Louise are the perfect hosts. Hospitality is second to none and they do everything to ensure your stay is happy and comfortable. It is clean and has everything you could need. Comfortable beds and lovely towels and robes supplied. We would recommend this place 100% if you are visiting Beamish as it is 5 mins down the road from Riding Farm. Durham is not far away either and well worth a visit.

Latest Review for Riding Cottage - Would recommend to anyone

We needed a place to stay for the family for a few days in the north east and found Riding Farm Cottages for a very reasonable price.
On the run up to our stay we got a communication from Louise with directions and offer of discount vouchers to Beamish Museum, (much appreciated on both counts), upon our arriva...l Louise greeted us very warmly (and with a fire going in the wood burning stove) and gave us several helpful suggestions of places to visit.
The cottage was spotless with comfortable sofas and beds, a well appointed kitchen and a very home from home atmosphere
We look forward to a return stay later in the year and would recommend, Riding farm to anyone needed to stay in the area. Thank you for spending the time to post a review of your time at Riding Cottage and look forward to seeing you soon.

Latest Review of Bowes Barn

"We stayed in Bowes Barn for a week and found it very comfortable. Downstairs had a kitchen diner and living area with everything we could need. Upstairs had a double bedroom and a single which we used for storing our luggage. Bathroom had a bath and good shower.
WI-FI is provided by a mains dongle which worked .
The outlook from the large arched windows and patio was across open farmland with pheasants , a red kite and many smaller birds.
The farm is surrounded by public footpaths including a community trail.
It takes about 10 minutes to Team Valley (Sainsbury's, M&S), 20 minutes to Kingston Park, Park and ride for Newcastle."

We still have availability for half term in Bowes Barn as well - only 3 days ! but with our special offer running it will be ideal if you are catching up with friends visiting Beamish Museum Durham or Newcastle

Just Beautiful! - Sheep Pen Cottage

Latest review for Sheep Pen Cottage

Just beautiful!

Everything about this cottage was just perfect! After a 6 hour journey to get there we were not disappointed - the cottage is beautiful, photos do not do it justice, and to find a pint of milk in the fridge with tea cups and Scottish shortbread laid out ready for us made us feel really welcome!

Our children loved the sheep, chickens and ponies - and also the selection of board games and dvd's.

We are already looking to book again! Why dont you have a look at Sheep Pen Cottage and its availabilty and some special offers for November

St Andrews Square is perfect

"Thank you Angus Louise David and Vickie for our stay in St Andrews Square it was perfect for us a real home from home while working away from home! Your service is second to none, nothing was too much bother"

The latest review of Lapwing Cottage after scoring 10 out of 10 is "MAGIC" short but to the point!

"Hidden Gem"

Excellent accommodation in beautiful surroundings. Everything available within cottage. Very high specification. Suitable for those with limited mobility as all on ground floor. Guests staying in Sheep Pen Cottage

"A tranquil break amid beautiful unspoilt countryside"

A warm welcome - which included a room upgrade to Beamish Cottage The standard of accomodation was very high and extremely comfortable with a fully equiped kitchen including a washing machine. Louise and Angus are excellent hosts who were anxious to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

We where pleased to receive a '25% off' voucher for Beamish - the reason for our visit. The tranquility of Riding Farm provided an excellent contrast from the hurly burly of the (extremely busy) museum

Home from home

Most comfortable, with entertaining and informative hosts. Stay of 2 nights to visit Beamish Museum en route to Fort William from Suffolk via York - guests staying in Lapwing Cottage

Sheep Pen is EXCELLENT in every way

Thanks again for a lovely stay. Sheep Pen Cottage is EXCELLENT in every way. Renovated so well and just our taste!! Good luck with future projects. We will return some day. Your welcome and hospitality were second to none. Ian and Alison Gillan. Emma loved her doublebed!!!

Relaxing break

Two night stay for short break. Quiet rural location within convenient distance from A1. Converted steading provided good facilities and host was helpful with recommendations of where to go for sightseeing and dining. Thoroughly recommended rural retreat.

Relaxing Stay at Lapwing Cottage

We stayed for 2 nights for a relaxing break after our daughters wedding and it was perfect. We stayed in one of the self-catering cottages - Lapwing Cottage and just did our own thing - which was very little! Had breakfast sat outside in our own little garden looking at the Angel of the North and then meandered over to the coast. Cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, and bed super-comfortable. Will definitely be back! we look forward to it!

Lovely Comfortable Clean and Well Equipped

There were four of us and this was a lovely, clean and very comfortable place to stay. It was well equipped and so close to a Co-Op, chinese restaurant/takeaway and local fish and chip shop. Only a few minutes drive to the centre of town and yet out in the countryside too. Will be back to stay for longer next time. Made our weekend very enjoyable. - These guests stayed in St Andrews Square who enjoyed a short break to Durham City

Millers Barn, Pig Run Barn and Beamish Cottage

We stayed at Millers Barn for two nights prior to our son's wedding on 27 April 2013. Other members of the family and friends had also booked properties owned by Riding Farm. The cottages are extremely warm and comfortable with fabulous big beds, lovely bathrooms and very well equipped kitchens. Extra thoughtful touches include milk in the fridge, tea, coffee and biscuits, wine and marmalade. Staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. Food ordered in one night was extremely good value and loads of it. Would thoroughly recommend this accommodation. This family all four generations stayed in Millars Barn Pig Run Barn Beamish Cottage and the The Bungalow

St Andrews Square

Lovely to be back and see Vickie and family again, so helpful under difficult times. Thanks again for a lovely stay at St Andrews Square

Lapwing Cottage

Brilliant location; tranquil and peaceful surroundings yet near enough to A1 for access to North East attractions of Gateshead, Newcastle, Durham, and surrounding areas.
Wonderful accommodation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - just what we needed; peace and tranquillity, superb accommodation, brilliant location, helpful and really nice owners - everything we could hope for Lapwing had. No doubt we will be back and will also recommend to anyone we know who might want to visit the area.

"If you're here - you already know - don't you. Feb breks ( breakfast) groovy pad bona location and Beamish just up the road - Steam on!! We'll be back"

"Fantastic week of sun and lots of walking beautiful countryside so quiet and perfect covered a lot of miles under foot!!! We did the Pennine Way a few years ago so we are able to return to Hadrian's Wall and walk part of it again simple love this area and the accommodation is great can not fault it so comfortable and the views from the back door are fantastic! Lovely to sit out there in the evening with a glass of wine. Watched some deer cross the fields below us one morning! Wonderful thank you for a fantastic week!"

"One word Fabulous!"

"Excellent standards of cleanliness and decor. Personal little touches like flowers and chocolates on arrival were lovely gestures. The provision of bathroom toiletries and dressing gowns exceeded expectations."

"Very handy for the surrounding area. Close to Newcastle and the Metro Centre - only about 10 mins drive away but you could be in the middle of nowhere when at the cottages. Would recommend them."

"Probably the best holiday accommodation we have stayed in really comfy bed. Came primarily to visit Beamish Museum Lapwing Cottage was so hand spent 2 full days the Beamish Museum vouchers where a bonus."

St Andrew's Square

"What a find perfect for a short break to Durham so much to see and do. The house is perfect thank you so much - the pictures on your web don't do it justice you are selling yourself short. We will be back soon"

Sheep Pen CottageEvery possible need catered for worth every one of the 5 Stars. The cottage was lovely and in a beautiful location. It was extremely well equipped, every possible need had been catered for. There were some really nice touches like maps of the local area provided with walks marked on them. We have stayed in many different self catering accomodations and this was by far the best.

"Thank you so much for letting us stay in the house over our Panto season. We have had such a wonderful stay and hope to see you later in the year for the next Panto!!
Many thanks

5 out 5 Again for Review 14/10/2011

"What a find! We will definitely return. A tastefully furnished, yet homely environment in which to relax. Great views. Bliss!"

"The selfish part of us would love to keep this wonderful cottage secret but we cant be so mean. A lovely find on the internet which we will be passing on to all our friends and acquaintances. We shall return!!"

"What a beautiful place to stay! The house was fabulously well-equipped, clean luxurious and in gorgeous countryside surroundings. The little touches made it - there was milk in the fridge so we have tea on arrival, there was a bathrobe each shampoos and soaps to use. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the local area - it was easy to drive to Durham centre. We were using it as a base for the Great North Run and it was perfect - you cant beat coming back to a comfy couch a warm fire and that view! Thanks and we'll be visiting again."

"Awesome fabulous find via the internet - top marks will certainly be recommending you to friends and family just cant believe we have been so lucky - took this picture from Sheep Pen thought you might like it - Thanks again."

Have just read the lovely comment left in the visitors book - "We had a lovely few days - just not long enough. Loved the cottage, will definatley recommend to friends and family. Hope to get the opportunity to come again. Loved seeing your daughters little lambs so cute!"

"Beautiful cottage- very comfy beds, great showers, well equipped kitchen, fantastic location. Hope to be able to return. Liked the flat rim to the bath - just perfect to rest a glass on !! "

Like staying in a showhome...
The standard of the accommodation almost ruined our mini-break - in that once settled in - we didn't want to venture out ! In the end we forced ourselves and fell in love with the area. The farm is in a secluded spot yet very handy for the City of Durham and for the A1 to explore further. We stayed in the apartment which was beautifully equipped with quality items. From the standard of the cutlery and crockery to the comfort of the beds, everything felt 5 star. Nice touches like a DVD library, dressing gowns, a posh coffee machine and flatscreen TVs in the bedrooms enhance the package. We stayed 3 nights for a spring break, and will return
Stayed March 2011 in Sheep Pen Cottage at Durham

"Sheep Pen Cottage is in a beautiful country setting but only 10 mins easy drive from Durham and 25 mins from Beamish so perfect situation for us. The cottage was scrupulousy clean - it is beautifully decorated but still has a lovely relaxed feel and is very comfortable -we all wanted to take our beds home with us! There is a little private garden, very sheltered, which gets the evening sun -good for a wee glass of wine before dinner . "

Riding Farm Cottage

"Louise at Riding Farm is an excellent hostess. I was made to feel at home immediately upon arrival. The cottage accommodation is excellent and location tremendous. My future choice between a standard hotel or Riding Farm ...No competition!!!"
